I fell in love with reading thanks to classics like "My Side of the Mountain", "Hatchet", and "Where the Red Fern Grows". Mark Leon Reeves has written a book that is in the same spirit as these classics.
While on the surface this a book of nature, adventure, and the great outdoors, the true beauty of this book is in the themes of heartbreak, struggle, redemption, love, and the resilience of the human spirit. We see the spirit of a boy begin to transition into the wisdom of man.
Whether you are a lover of adventure in the great outdoors or just someone looking for a smooth, entertaining read, this story will leave a smile on your face.

 Great read for kids and adults. January 14, 2017

I felt an emotional connection with Angus from beginning to the end of this book. The book has a way of capturing your attention and keeping the reader hooked and feeling compelled to keep reading just 1 more chapter. Kids who are from "the country" will relate and enjoy the how to survive in the wilderness descriptions in this story. For the kids who are "city kids" it gives them a great escape into a whole new world for them. I think every child can relate to Angus and his struggles. I also loved that reading books was his safe place when he needed an escape. I think that is an important message for the kids of today to learn. I think kids and adults will find this book to be a great and memorable read.

Another excellent story about the adventures of Angus! I didnt think it would be as good as the first, but i couldn't put it down! Some unexpected twists and turns in this one. Definately will get "non readers" hooked!
